Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome
The means by which a user can change their account password under GNOME
are not obvious.
Presently there are two ways by which a user may reach a password-change
action from the GNOME menu. These are System -> Preferences -> About Me,
and System -> Administration -> Users and Groups. The latter requires
root privileges and so is not optimal (root privileges aren't needed for
this operation.) The first does not present itself as a 'change
password' operation, and is easily overlooked, as it was by myself. ;-)
Common sense suggests there should be a prominent 'Change Password'
option, perhaps on the top-level System menu above 'Quit,' or otherwise
elsewhere.
** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Untriaged
Status: Unconfirmed
