So I made some tests with various themes:

Gtk/Gnomes own themes seem to work properly
clearlooks mist etc.

But some other themes from gnome-art
like clearlooks-vista, gray,resilence and milk2.1 cause some problems. they produce a vertical gradient in the panel. the sensors-applet networkmonitor and keyboardindicator just use the unicolor default backround. the window- and fastuserswitcher seem to do the same but with resilence theme it seems they behave like buttons or menuentries thid apperas with the gnome-menu when using resilence i'll attachs some screenshots
