[Bug 66477] hal (through guidance-power-manager) considers laptop lid always closed

Public bug reported:

On my updated Kubuntu 6.10 Edgy beta machine, the new guidance-power-
manager reports every time on logon that my laptop lid is closed. That
probably means hal cannot recognize the closed/open laptop lid
correctly. It causes serious problems when the guidance-power-manager is
set to suspend/hibernate when lid is closed.

My notebook is Acer Travelmate 244FX. I can provide more information if
necessary.
