[Bug 66157] unresponsive

Binary package hint: gnome

When I try and start either the update manager of the Synaptic package
manager, the applications try to open Gnome administrative application
the Gnome administrative application, but after about 10 seconds -
nothing happens and the hourglass reverts to a pointer - i.e. nothing
happened. Same if I click the update icon in the toolbar. "Starting
Administrative Application" message appears in the bottom panel but
nothing further.
