Thanks for your bug. Might be fixed with this upload:

 libcairo (1.2.4-1ubuntu2) edgy; urgency=low
 .
   * debian/patches/01-cairo_xlib_surface_add_glyph.patch:
     - patch from upstream to fix issues when running applications by ssh from
       ppc to i386 (Ubuntu: #62810)

Could people give a try to the new version and comment on the bug when
it's available?
