Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Not sure if this is a bug exactly or an incompatibility
with gnome.

I use Ubuntu 6.06 with gnome desktop. For a couple of years I have used
noflushd for disc spin down and I have found that it is
the only application which is effective in controlling
hard discs properly. About 2 or 3 weeks ago, after an upgrade which included an upgrade kernel image and required a reboot, the
gnome desktop was removed and KDE became the default desktop.
Using apt-get I reinstalled gnome desktop and this
removed the noflushd application in the process. I
tried to selectively remove the gnome power management
applications but to remove any of the elements also
attempted to remove the whole of the gnome desktop
environment. So, I want to use gnome with noflushd but
my only choice is to use kde with noflushd or gnome
with built in power management (which does not control
the disc spindown properly). I have asked gnome and noflushd the same
question.

** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
