[Bug 73892] UI components render with black backgrounds in GTK applications

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

The tabs in the default Firefox theme have a black background that
disappears when they are hovered over or clicked.

Apparently random page elements within web pages also gain this black
background that is then altered by CSS or Javascript activity.

The rulers in the GIMP have random black lines across them also.

I am running Edgy on AMD64 with an AGP Fx5700 (Aeolus AOpen). The other
machines in the office are also running Edgy AMD64 with Fx5700 cards,
but no one else is experiencing the problem. Mine is the only Aeolus
card, and also the only AGP card. The others are PCI Express.

This problem does not appear to manifest itself in non-GTK applications.

"aptitude show nvidia-glx" returns the same driver version for all
machines (1.0.8776+2.6.17.6-1)

** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
