This is the wrong location for this bug-report. I think you should file
this against "gnome-control-center", since this is the package
containing the application "gnome-sound-properties" (you can find out
things like this via apt-file search <filename>).

Of course it might be possible, rhythmbox and totem both contain a bug
which makes them ignore the selected soundcard, but I think this is
unlikly - stick to "gnome-control-center" until they tell you to do
something else ;).
