Ah, I bet I know what's wrong, you probably said "don't import photos"
and "never ask me again" to the import dialog in the past. To confirm,
please give me the output of

  gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/volume_manager/prompts

I bet that camera_import_photos is '5', not '6'. If so, please use
gconf-editor to reset the value of this key.
