Public bug reported:

I have an Acer Aspire 3003LWCi and its battery got erratic. ACPI does
not recognizes battery status anymore:

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info
present:                 yes
design capacity:         2000 mAh
last full capacity:      65010 mAh
battery technology:      rechargeable
design voltage:          14400 mV
design capacity warning: 200 mAh
design capacity low:     2600 mAh
capacity granularity 1:  32 mAh
capacity granularity 2:  32 mAh
model number:            11ZL
serial number:           120
battery type:            LION
OEM info:                SIMPLO

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state
present:                 yes
ERROR: Unable to read battery status

And kernel throws this error on /var/log/kern.log:

Nov 17 01:03:18 localhost kernel: [17185034.588000] ACPI Exception
(acpi_battery-0218): AE_SUPPORT, Extracting _BST [20060707]

Every time I get logged in Gnome HAL crashes (I supose that the battery
is the problem, for if I remove it HAL works perfectly well) right on
start.

HAL should not crash but instead report a faulty battery.

** Affects: hal (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
