The non-selectable contacts were added in a prior version of Evolution from Fedora Core 3. While this is a brand new Dapper install, /home (and only /home) is from the FC3 install. -- Can't use the "To" button in Compose Message to look up contacts https://launchpad.net/bugs/47329
