(Sorry about the repeated messages.  It turns out that if the browser
refreshes the page after you post a bug on launchpad, that re-posts the
bug.  And if you reboot your computer and the browser comes back with
Session Saver, that refreshes the page...  From now on I'll close a bug
window immediately after the bug is submitted, to prevent this.)

Today's package updates include updates to smbfs.  I updated my Athlon64
to the latest, put back the auto smbfs mount, and rebooted.  Same exact
failure mode as reported above: desktop takes over 45 seconds to come up
and the smbfs mounted volume just times out if you try to look at it.
