Can you confirm that /dev/hdd (secondary slave IDE device) is actually
your ZIP drive? You said that your system was SCSI otherwise.

So it seems that polling /dev/hdd is either not done properly, or it's
just the wrong device. Hm, should that be /dev/hdd4 actually? There was
some oddity with ZIP drives AFAIR.
