[Bug 42438] error when bookmark or search initiated before topics displayed

Description:
entering a search term or selecting a bookmark before the window shows
any topics gives the following error several times:

    The section ‘(null)’ does not exist in this document. If you were
directed to this section from a Help       button in an application,
please report this to the maintainers of that application.

This is easier to see with a cold cache (after boot)
