Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36463

Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I am running an up-to-date version of Dapper on an Dell Inspiron 4150
(screen resolution 1400x1050), video card Ati Mobile Radeon 7500 (is
listed in the Gnome Device Manager).

After an update on 2006-03-23 (there was an update to gdm today), the
login screen looked weird, stripey and was unreadable (you could guess
about the colours). Keyboard and mouse are available and seem to work
properly, the cursor is painted correctly. After entering user id and
password, I get logged in, however, the gnome desktop is also weird,
stripey and unreadable. It is possible to launch application by clicking
on the icon location. However they are exhibiting the same problem.

I am using the "Happy Gnome with Browser" login theme.

I have tried the following:
- Killing X by ctrl>+<alt>+<backspace> didn't help, after relaunch, gdm brought up the stripey thing again
- startx after logging into a bash broght up the stripey thing.
- After switching to the "Human" login theme, everything worked fine.
- It also possible to get an visible login screen and gnome desktop by switching to another console (using <ctrl>+<alt>+<F8>) and returning to the gdm login from that console (apparently the repaint works fine).

Regards
