Ah okay, your comment got me thinking, I sussed it now ;-)

I was trying on a new/blank text file. But then I tried with a C source
file, and it worked  ! :o)

I just simply didn't even think that snippets could be restricted to
identified source file types, I thought they were just generic shorcuts
you could use in any text file.

Maybe worth making that clear in Gedit's user manual (if it's not
already, will have a look at the documentation... )
