Ubuntu Dapper
When setting up ekiga sip phone I had problems getting mic working with sufficient volume.
Comparing Gnome Volume Control and Amixer I found that GVC didn't display a Mic Boost control (all preferences checked). In addition the Mic slider control seemed to be out of sync with what I was seeing in Amixer and Alsamixer.
