I would like to re-open this bug. I'm getting these exact issues on an upto date Dapper (6.06LTS x86) install when trying to burn the Ubuntu 6.06 PPC Desktop iso. I've tried multiple times, always with this result. -- Keeps asking for a blank CD just before writing. https://launchpad.net/bugs/20879
