I got <Mod4>+L to lock my screen working in a rather filthy way.
I changed command_1 in /apps/metacity/keybinding_commands to gnome-screensaver-command --lock
And I also changed run_command_1 in /apps/metacity/global_keybindings to <Mod4>L

This seems to be working...
