[Bug 52017] changing settings (like paper size) have no effect in CUPS

I'm using Dapper Drake with an HP LaserJet 4 Plus. When I add the
printer with the gnome-cups-add tool, everything goes fine so far. Then
I change settings (paper size from Letter to A4, Resolution to 600, ...
) and try to print a test page. It does print, but as letter (printer
tells me that, and upper edge is cut). It's no printer problem since it
works with Debian testing and Windows XP.

Looking at the CUPS web interface, I see that the settings haven't been
changed properly -- CUPS still has Letter set as paper type, other
settings are at default too. This problem happens with two of the HP
LaserJet 4 Plus printer drivers (haven't tested the third one, lj4dith,
