Summary: Evolution plugins ripped apart
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: evolution
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: Moritz.Schulte at ruhr-uni-bochum.de
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
I installed Evolution (on Breezy) and spent several hours on trying to figure
out why the spam filtering silently fails: Spamassassin is installed but marking
a message as spam in Evolution did not result in any modifications beneath
~/.spamassassin. Finally I figured out what was wrong (after downloading the
evolution source package): evolution-plugins was not installed.
Splitting up on upstream package into several logical packages is fine, as long
as the user is INFORMED about this. Because of shortcommings in the evolution
UI I had NO idea about missing plugins; especially since I was able to enable
spam filtering and all in the UI. In such a situation, please either make the
main package (evolution) DEPEND on the sub-package (evolution-plugins) or make
the stripped package (evolution) inform the user about missing plugins.
