Summary: Wording of error message is bad
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: gdm
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: dennis at kaarsemaker.net
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
GDM spits out an error if ~/.dmrc is writable to other users:
"Your $HOME/.dmrc file has incorrect permissions and is being ignored. THis
prevents the default session and language from being saved. File should be owned
by user and have 644 permissions."
This message is wrong since it also pops up if ~/.dmrc has the right
permissions, but ~ is group- or worldwritable. A very confusing thing that has
happened to quite a few people in #ubuntu already. Oh and "644 permissions" is a
far too user-unfriendly message.
