compatible is the new name for 'dblbuf' (it seems, at least, dblbuf is no longer
supported from the qcset commandline utility)

here's a list of supported apps:

it says the following need dblbuf (compatible): avirec, camstream, effectv,
gnomemeeting, motion, vic

although i'd guess gnomemeeting uses gstreamer? (maybe not?)
