Unstable versions move fast enough to not bother backporting every single fix to
get them 2 days before a tarball. If you don't want to get such issues for a few
day better to stick to a stable version of the distro. Anyway this bug is fixed
with the new version of that week:

 gtk2-engines (1:2.7.2-0ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream version:
     - Numerous Clearlooks bug fixes (Ubuntu: #20022)
     - Patches and fixes for bug 321140 to hc, industrial, mist, redmond, smooth
       and thinice engines (cleanups for compiler warnings
       and removal of unneeded code)
   * debian/patches/smooth_gtk_drawing-d4x.patch:
     - updated
