           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: gnome-volume-manager
        AssignedTo: martin.pitt at ubuntu.com

With my mp3 player (ipod nano) plugged into any working USB port, Linux doesn't
recognize that it is connected.

The screen on the mp3 player simply shows a "charging" icon after a few minutes.
 This used to work on Linux and does work on Windows. My other mp3 player does
the same thing.

Here is some info:

$ uname -r
2.6.12-10-386

$ dmesg | tail -n 3

which gnome-volume-manager
/usr/bin/gnome-volume-manager

  $ more /etc/fstab
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.

/dev/hdd        /media/cdrom1   udf,iso9660 user,noauto     0       0

lsusb hangs when I try to run it.

Thanks for the help
