I had the same problem, and then I saw this thread here:

explains that we're not supposed to mount local partitions under /media
- that's reserved for pluggable media (don't worry, this is the first I
heard about it too).

So, I created a directory for my partition under /mnt (sudo mkdir
/mnt/hda2), and edited /etc/fstab to mount my partition there. Still
wasn't showing up, so I ran gconf-editor and under /system/storage,
ticked the option to display_internal_hard_drives. It now shows up in
Places as "9.3GB Volume", which isn't as descriptive as "Windows" (which
I called my FAT32 partition), but is adequate.

I don't know if this is THE solution, but it's A solution.
