fixed for me as of today (feb. 08 2006) on my toshiba l10.

grabbed the latest updates (kernel 2.6.15-15 and hal 0.5.6-1 - or
whatever else was responsible )

you guys just made my day. now my laptop supports ubuntu pretty much
100% :-)
