that upstream bug appears to be about frame by frame seeking... 
does this bug still happen in edgy?
can someone provide a small (under 50MB) testfile for this particular bug? this appears to me with all of the .mpg files that i have tested to have been fixed in totem cvs built against edgy. (tho possibly also already fixed in edgy's totem).
