Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Title says it all :-)

I have two version of Linux on my machine (nothing exotic: Edgy for work, Feisty for testing), plus a couple fat/Windows partition.
Each Linux is on its own hard drive, with separate home and swap partition.

The problem is that it makes no sense to me, it is useless, for example, to see the partitions of Edgy when I am using Feisty, and vice versa.
The problem is that Nautilus now shows partitions that I have NOT mounted, hence that I do NOT want to see !
I tried right-clicking on them to select "remove" from the menu, but this option is greyed out ! :-/
Seeing all these unwanted partitions sitting there in the side bar all the time (with weird names on top of that), polluting the other partitions that I do use, is annoying as hell. Looks really untidy, hurts usability, and induces a horrible feeling of powerlessness when you realise you can't get rid of them :-/

Don't get me wrong...I think it's GREAT to have a GUI that shows all
unmounted partitions and lets you mount them easily. HOWEVER, such a GUI
should not be part of the main Nautilus window ! Mounting local hard
drive partitions is an administrative task, so it should have a GUI of
its own. In Dapper there used to be a nice little tool to do just that
("disk-admin" IIRC), which was great. Of course the GUI itself was buggy
and needed development, but the basic idea/concept was just fine I felt.
Having a GUI of its own would also allow to have more features for added
usability/user-friendlyness (allow to specify a mount point with a name
of OUR choice to start with, rather than being imposed a label
arbitrarily, as is the case at present.)

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
