Daniel, we wen through this during dapper cycle. If you remember I seem to have faced the same exact bug which then just disappeared. (i.e. gnome terminal problem with new tabs, and gaim segfaulting) -- can't open new tabs (with a11y turned on) https://launchpad.net/bugs/58068
