Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Nothing says slow OS like clicking on the "Applications" menu button
only to see all of the icons as blank for a second the first time you
scroll over the menu.

Is there any chance menu icons could be pre-loaded on startup or shortly
theirafter? They are all tiny icons so I imagine the memory footprint
is quite minimal and it could make a big difference in how fast Gnome
feels.

thanks!
