Public bug reported:

Machine: Packard Bell I-Media 1507

Running the Dapper Drake install-to-hard-disk program from the live CD
and resizing the NTFS partition to 95% of its initial value (which left
~10 gig for Ubuntu; the HD is about 50% full and Ubuntu recommended that
the drive be split 75:25 for Windows:Ubuntu), and then reinstalling due
to having mistyped the initial user password in the installation program
(ie: into the same partitioning structure as previously) appears to have
prevented Windows XP from booting. (Ubuntu continues to work, and can
access the NTFS partition and the FAT recovery partition)

The I-Media ships with Win XP Home and asks for system restore disks to
be made at initial boot, to complement the recovery partition; the
Windows boot menu has two choices; one to boot into Windows, and another
to go to the recovery console.

After installing Ubuntu, Windows hangs about a minute during the boot
sequence regardless of whether normal mode [get Windows loading screen,
then turns black], safe mode [get stream of text, then hangs with text]
or recovery console [get text based windows loading screen, then turns
black] are chosen. The system recovery disks made refuse to work
(believed to be due to not recognising the installed OS)

The system has not been changed since this point: please reply ASAP
since diagnostics will only be possible for a short period of time
before I try potentially more invasive ways of making the computer work
again.

** Affects: gparted (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Untriaged
         Status: Needs Info
