it seems the original bug is fixed. i opened Bug #40813 about volume changes lagging behind the slider, and Bug #40811 for the muted icon showing before volume reaches 0% -- Feature wish: Adjust volume with mouse scroll wheel https://launchpad.net/bugs/40274
