I think it would be possible for the GAIM developers to do that, but I also think that is not their first priority right now.

The best solution would be to include a default 'confirm file overwrite' dialog in GTK. That way all the dialogs will look the same, have the same buttons, need to be translated only once, and can be called with one easy command.
