[Bug 38622] Syncing fails "The base directory ..."

Description:
Syncing with an up-to-date Dapper and my Palm E2 results in the
following error message:

The base directory [garbage]
[garbage]
[garbage] is invalid
Please fix it or use gnomecc to choose another directory

If I can figure out how to upload a screenshot I will.
