Public bug reported:
Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
Severity: Normal
Priority: (none set)
Status: Unconfirmed
Description:
This is a new installation of Ubuntu 6.04 current from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/
( dapper-install-i386.iso )
----
Gnome-panel has a default (sound) volume-control icon beside the clock/calendar applet.
I accidentally added a second volumen-control on the gnome-panel by
dragging it (an icon) from the add-to-panel program list. This second
volume-control instance makes the entire panel to freeze.
This is a malfunction related to gnome-panel / volumen-control applet .
Sound card and everything else works just fine.
After the panel freezed, I tried:
$ killall gnome-panel
But the panel never re-appeared.
I tried in the text console (CNTR + ALT + F1):
$ sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
But the panel was not to see. It had vanished.
Finally I had to do in the text console:
# init 1
and
#init 2
And that gave me a functional desktop with gnome-panel.
Still, I can repeat the volume-control error at anytime.
----------------------
I removed the original volumen-control from the panel and inserted a new one. Then it's OK.
