Did you install Breezy (Ubuntu 5.10) or Dapper (6.06)?

Can you please open a Terminal window and check that the command

 pidof hald

does not output anything? What does

  ps aux|grep dbus.*system

print? (Use copy&paste).

If you do

  sudo /etc/init.d/dbus restart

and log out and back in again, does it work afterwards?
