Before this issue is endlessly passed around between kernel, udev and hal, I'd
like to express my point of view:
It seems we are dealing with two bugs:
First, hal should be able to cope with fast successive events. If I understood
correctly, this is impossible to fix for Breezy, but the process will change for
Dapper anyway, making it easier to synchronize.
Second, the kernel should not fire multiple (identical) events for just one
"source event" (the physical insertion of the card). If the kernel cannot
prevent that, nothing that comes after it will be able to.
It seems that these issues won't be fixed in time for Breezy, which is not that
much of a problem, because as a workaround you can
a) boot with the card already inserted or
b) mount the card with a shell command
Maybe for Dapper a way could be found for the kernel to read IDE device
partitions more efficiently?
