Summary: drag & drop files into totem causes system to freeze
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: totem
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: thesicktwist at hotmail.com
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
I'm running Ubuntu Breezy with all the latest updates.
When I try to drag and drop one (or numerous) selected files from nautilus to
totem, the entire system locks up. The only thing that remains responsive after
doing this is the mouse pointer. ALT+CTRL+BACKSPACE will not kill X so I have to
do a hard reset every time that I attempt to investigate this bug.
The bug occurs when totem is using either gstreamer *or* xine as a back-end. So
far I have only seen it occur with video files (I just tried it with an MPEG-2
encoded file). I have not tested it with other file types yet so I'm not sure if
it is related to a specific file type. As I mentioned, it makes the entire
system unstable so it has been very time consuming for me to try to deduce. One
thing that I noticed is that it only occurs when the file (or files) are dragged
into the video display portion of totem's window. It does *not* happen if the
file is dragged and dropped into totem's playlist area (when the playlist is
visible).
I tried doing a backtrace with gdb but had some difficulty getting totem to run.
If anyone could give me a tip how to regain control of the system after totem
has crashed it would make it much easier for me to try to figure out the issue
causing this.
