Here's a patch that you can drop into debian/patches while building
gnome-applets to work around the bug.

It is confirmed to fix the problem by at least 1 person but I'd appreciate if
everyone here could test it.

This is NOT a fix for the bug, since the bug is in the kernel.	It is, however,
all that we will probably be able to get done in time for Breezy.
