Thanks for the backtrace. It works fine for me with the file moved. Have you
changed your gdm config (font, theme, ...)? Could you attach your
/etc/gdm/gdm.conf to bugzilla? Could you get a debug backtrace by installing the
libgpango1.0-dbg libgtk2.0-0-dbg libfontconfig1-dbg packages and using
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/debug:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH to start gdm/gdb? 
Do you know how to rebuild a package with a patch? That would be nice to try the
patch from http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=313685. I can build a
patched package and put it on a webpage too.
