Ubuntu | gnome-screensaver
Summary: Potential for offensive content in some screensavers
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: gnome-screensaver
AssignedTo: ogra at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: stuporglue at gmail.com
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
CC: ogra at ubuntu.com
I haven't personally seen this, but am posting on behalf of several people on
the devel mailing list.
With gnome-screensaver replacing xscreensaver, there is no (easy) way to turn of
which screensavers are used for the random rotation.
At least one of the screensavers (webwhacker) has the potential to pull
pornographic or other offensive pictures off of the web and display them as part
of the screensaver.
Webwhacker should be disabled or not installed by default so end users (or their
wives) aren't suprised. Including it could also cause a problem in some work
environments.
