Summary: breezy nautilus - peculiar "vanishing desktop icons"
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: nautilus
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: dooglus at gmail.com
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
I'm seeing the strangest bug:
If I make a text file on my desktop, I see it as an icon that looks like a sheet
of paper with the top right corner folded over, and the first few words of the
file are shown in the icon.
If I leave the desktop visible for a minute or two, the icon blinks out of
existance.
If I then use a terminal window to 'ls' in ~/Desktop, I can see that the file is
really still there, but that nautilus is just being nautie.
Clicking on the desktop and hitting F5 or control-R brings the text icon back
again, but wait another minute or two and it disappears again.
If I use the 'places' menu and use it to go to "Desktop", I see a separate
window showing the same state of affairs - sometimes the window will show the
.txt file, and if I wait it will vanish. Hitting F5 or ^R in the window
refreshes both the window and the desktop.
If I make a lot of .txt files on the desktop, sometimes they will all wink out
of view simultaneously, and other times they will disappear in smaller groups.
This doesn't seem to happen for other types, only for text documents (any file
with the folded-corner icon).
Also, it doesn't seem to happen for any other directory. This is something
special about text files, and the desktop.
Don't believe me, do you? I don't blame you, but it's true!
