Hm, is that still true in current breezy? The current g-v-m calls totem with the
device as argument ("totem %d"), so if totem does not respect this, that is a
totem bug. 

Can you please try this on a current Breezy (install or live) and if it still
does not work as expected, give me a gnome-volume-manager debugging output as
described on http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices?
