Thanks for fast reply! I picked the Finnish layout in the Ubuntu installer. When
I booted the Ubuntu 5.10 Preview again today the @ character and euro sign seem
to work well. Maybe the reboot helped. However, it would be nice to have these
things set automatically after Ubuntu installation. I had to do the third-level
chooser adjustment in Ubuntu 5.04 too. The output you asked can be seen below.
timo at pihlaja:~$ xprop -root | grep XKB
_XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = "xorg", "pc105", "fi", "", ""
_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "xorg", "pc105", "fi,se", ",",
"altwin:meta_win,lv3:ralt_switch,grp:alts_toggle,eurosign:e,lv3:alt_switch"
timo at pihlaja:~$ gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
layouts = [fi,se]
model = pc105
options = [altwin altwin:meta_win,lv3 lv3:ralt_switch,grp
grp:alts_toggle,eurosign eurosign:e,lv3 lv3:alt_switch]
overrideSettings = true
