Please check if dbus is running: /var/run/dbus/ should contain two files (pid,
system_bus_socket). If not, please check if

  ls -l /etc/rc2.d/*dbus*

prints out anything.

Did you upgrade your system from an earlier development release of Breezy? Or
did you upgrade from Hoary to Breezy preview or install from scratch?
