Summary: volume keys unpredictable on powerbook
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: powerpc
        OS/Version: other
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: gnome-volume-manager
        AssignedTo: martin.pitt at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: dufresnj at lafayette.edu
         QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

I am using breezy on a powerbook (TiBook series). It seems to me the volume up
and volume down keys work in weird ways that are independent from the volume applet.

If I am listening to an mp3 in totem. I can hear it through the laptop speakers,
just like it should. Then I plug in headphones. It stops playing through the
laptop speakers, like it should. If I adjust totem volume it changes on the
headphones and if I adjust the volume applet it adjusts the headphones. If I
press the volume up keyboard key, it suddenly starts playing through my laptop
speakers as if my headphones weren't plugged in. The volume applet has no effect
on the laptop speaker volume, only the keyboard key does. Also the keyboard
volume keys has no effect on the headphone volume, only the volume applet does.

If I then unplug my headphoens the laptop volume turns off. Maybe something is
trying to changes states from headphone mode to speaker mode?... but being put
in the wrong one might have screwed it up?? I don't know, that is just a guess.
I then have to fidle around with the keyboard keys and the applet to get it to
come back out through the speakers. I can then repeat this many times.

It seems to me that the volume keys and volume applet are not the same volume,
which is what the user (myself included) will epect. Not only that but the
keyboard volume buttons really do unpredictable things when used in conjuction
with the applet.
