gstreamer0.8-mad works perfectly (as I rather expected). Whats's strange is that
I no longer can reproduce the crash.
(every package is the same version as before, so that's not it).

After remove --purge gstreamer0.8-mad and install gstreamer0.8-ffmpeg playing a
song and moving the slider just makes
the music stop and enables me to start again at the beginning of the song.

Trying totem the experience is similar, the music pauses and pressing play makes
it re-start at the beginning of the
song. I'm just guessing that the "jump to other part of song" is something
that's simply not available in 
gstreamer0.8-ffmpeg.

Since I can't reproduce the crash (I did of course reproduce the crash several
times before submitting the bug, and as
I'm running a live cd I thought reproducability was the least of my worries and
went back to my normal system), I'll
leave this bug open for a few days pending a few more tries, or additional input
and then I'll just close this bug with
an "invalid" pretending it never happened (unless someone has a better idea).
