"difference between files" is what the MIME DB calls a unified diff.

The specific file that causes this problem:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=48557&action=view

If you click that link and go file->'save page as' in firefox you should get
offered "attachment.cgi" as a default filename (and in my case, Desktop as the
default location).  If you then double click on the file you should get that
exact message.
