It *does*. The default user is created like this:

uid=1000(martin) gid=1000(martin)
Gruppen=4(adm),20(dialout),24(cdrom),25(floppy),29(audio),30(dip),44(video),46(plugdev),104(lpadmin),105(scanner),106(admin),1000(martin)

This is equivalent to the "Administrator" user profile in users-admin. Without
"admin" (which grants you sudo privileges) it would be "Desktop".

Do you have any idea why you lost the group privileges?
